A new year, a new mind set. Today started like any other only I didn’t wake up at stupid o’clock. I slept in until 6:59hr; sleeping as late as that is quite rare for me. I guess it must be all the Canada Dry Slimline Ginger Ale that I drank last night…….
I was quite happy not to have woken up with a hangover, especially while I was walking the dogs in the bright but very breezy morning. Brrrrrrrrrr. I’m sure there are plenty of people with sore heads today.
After blowing away the cobwebs in the fresh morning air I disappeared into the sewing room to take stock of the scrap bins. This is what I found.
Since taking this photo, I have topped up both bins with more scraps that seem to be piled everywhere in my sewing room. In fact I realised later that I have another bin, the same size as the first two, full of reds. So I think I can safely say that I have plenty of choices for Use up Your Scraps month challenge which officially starts today. Speaking of UuYS, you will find the info regarding how to piece the Lively Logs Block on the UuYS page. I have tested this block and it works really well. I loaded the quilt top that I pieced using this block into my longarm quilting system this morning for quilting. Perhaps tomorrow I will click go. I can’t wait to see how it looks when it’s finished.
As well as taking stock of the scrap fabrics, I also took stock of leftover wadding. I was very surprised to find so many off cuts lying around. I’m really pleased with all the goodies I found this morning. I can’t wait to piece another scrappy project.
I have a few useful bits I would like to make this month. One of which is a Knitting Needle/Crochet Hook Keeper. I made a Knitting Needle Roll/Keeper last autumn using Orphaned Elongated Hexagons. I made it on a whim but it turns out that it’s very useful indeed. Something else I would like to make is a Knitting Bag. My goal for this month is to make small manageable projects that can be finished over a few days rather than weeks. So I’m hoping to meet the challenge of using my scraps for the month of January. I’m loaded with inspiration right now. So I’ll let you know how I’m getting on.
During my hunt for scraps this morning, while opening every drawer and door in the sewing room, I found these.
These Freemotion Quilting Aids have eluded me for far too long now. So now that they have surfaced again, I have stored them in my FMQ room which is where they should have been all along.
It’s been a good first day of 2013. And I enjoyed working on my Double Wedding Ring last evening. As it turns out I found that I have done more work on the project than I thought I had. It will be a long time before the quilt top is completely pieced but as there is no rush that works for me. It looks like 2013 will be unfolding a little differently than I had envisaged. One of the main projects that I was going to reveal sometime over the next few months has been postponed until the second half of the year. And there is a possibility that you will see me out and about more often than you have in 2012. It’s only the first day of 2013 and already it’s getting exciting.
So I guess that brings us to what I will be working on this evening; this very ambitious happy longarm quilter will be working on the Double Wedding Ring quilt again. My Sarah and I plan on watching Miranda this evening; it’s guaranteed to give us a laugh. Whatever you may be doing this evening, I hope you’ve had a good first day of the year. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
P.S.: If you want to know more about Use up Your Scraps month click here. Can you meet the challenge?

When does fabric become a scrap? Is there an EU directive on maximum size for a crap piec of fabric???
That’s a very good question. I suppose scraps are like “beauty” – they’re in the eye of the beholder…… Seriously, I think in this case scraps could be stretched to anything in your stash that works for the job you want to complete. I hope you join in UuYS. And thanks for visiting.
I will join you in using up scraps!
Fantastic. I look forward to receiving photos of your finished/part finished projects. Thanks for visiting.
