This morning was dark and dreary again. However I didn’t dwell on it too much because I had a small To-Do List that I wanted to push thru. I got most of it done but I’m afraid I didn’t get to watch a movie while doing some hand quilting because I spent much longer Freemotion Quilting my Dresden Plate project on my HandiQuilter Sweet Sixteen than I planned. I worked on the first and second borders with great success. I started with a pen practice last evening getting my brain ready for the actual stitching. Here’s a peek at what I sketched out……
Then after lunch I started stitching out the first border like this…..
And once the first border was finished I moved onto the second doing this………
What a blast I had! The more I play with my Sweet Sixteen the more I like it. I’m getting used to the noise it makes and I’m getting used to the feel of the foot pedal. It’s got a 16” throat space which is quite spacious for working on any size quilt. My Dresden Plate is only 60” square so quilting it using the Sweet Sixteen is like dancing in a dance hall instead of a closet. So it looks like I’m definitely on track to Finish it Up before the month is over. I have a little pile of UFOs that I would like to finish during Finish it Up February but reality sets in and generally takes me away for the pile of UFOs to work on other things like longarm quilting. I will try to finish up a many projects as I can.
I spent all of last month working on Use up Your Scraps projects. Well it seems that I’m still in scrappy mode. I spend quite a lot of time checking out Pinterest and I seem to repin a lot of scrappy projects. So when I’m next in the mood to use up a few more scraps I will definitely be going back to my scrappy board to find some inspiration for a project.
Well it seems I don’t have much to report this evening. I have been pretty busy with Freemotion Quilting which takes time and patience. I really enjoyed it and seeing my Dresden Plate project shaping up is really quite exciting. I hope to have an actual to finish to report about soon.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be working on my Lilly Pilly applique project. Whatever you may be doing this evening, I hope you’re well sheltered from the dreadful weather. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching.

Good Morning Lucie
I love reading your posts, feels like I have a friend letting me know what they have been up to.
I have been thinking of purchasing a Sweet Sixteen, actually was talking about it at work yesterday, and have applied for a week off in October to go to a Quilt Show and purchase one, but am going to Brisbane in March and my get one then … today’s post has convinced me how mush I need one.
I am only using my Husqvarna Emerald for quilting and sometimes it is rather difficult to fit the quit in the throat.

Thank you for your very kind words about
reading my blog. I’m very please that you
enjoy reading my daily accounts.
I believe that your will love the Sweet Sixteen.
It’s a fab machine that makes it a lot easier to
quilt larger projects. My experience with my Sweet
Sixteen is all positive. Thanks for popping in
today. I hope you keep reading me. Happy stitching.
I like your doodle pattern. It looks like a cross between mussel shells and paisley and suits your quilt well

Thanks. I’m glad you like it. I’m having a great time FMQ this quilt. Thanks for popping in.
Dear Lucie, I am so enjoying your blog! I took a trip to England in 2008 and we had a great time and I so enjoyed the countryside. When I read your words on weather and your daily activities I am cheered to see the slight differences in spellings and phrases. I am very impressed with your long arm work on the sweet sixteen. Is it the sitdown or is it in a frame? I have the sitdown, but bought it recently just before Christmas. The piano keys you put in your border, did you use a ruler or was that freehand? I see you have the open toe foot on and I wondered.
Thanks for sharing.

Hiya Suzanne
I’m glad you could pop in to read about today’s antics. I have two HandiQuilters, the first is a 24″ Fusion on a frame and the second is a sitdown Sweet Sixteen. All the quilting I worked on yesterday was FMQ. The only part I used rulers for was the Dresden Plate itself. I started off with the closed foot when I originally purchased the machine but have now changed to the open foot. It helps me see where I’ve been, much better than the closed foot.
Enjoy the journey your Sweet Sixteen is taking you on,
Happy stitching.
Great quilting!
Thank you. I’m glad you approve.
