Happy Mother’s Day to all my lady friends in the UK. I hope you’ve had a splendid day of lounging around in the company of your families today.
Today was pretty quiet for this very happy longarm quilter. I spent plenty of time in my sewing room messing around. I continued cutting out Dresden blades from scraps…….
Then I started playing around with the fabrics I chose for my Mixed Media Sampler. While playing I decided that a design wall would be a very useful tool to have. I have now worked out where I could put a design wall but for the time being I decided to improvise. I took one of my A2 size whiteboards and pinned some leftover wadding over it. Just like this……
I find these whiteboards are brilliant to write on to prepare my brain for and also preview/practice Freemotion Quilting designs. So once I had covered the whiteboard with wadding I started arranging bits of fabric in an attempt to audition them. As you can see it gives you quite a good idea how a project will look once pieced together. Now I will start working out how I can make a bigger version to hang on the chimney breast in my sewing room which can be used for bigger scale projects.
After I finished playing with my makeshift design board I went on to rotary cut this little pile of strips….
And then I joined them like this…….
I will sandwich this little quilt top, Freemotion Quilt it and use it as a table runner. It’s such an easy make and I love all the fabrics I used in this quilt top. I think I will use a simple quilting design similar to continuous boxes to quilt this one because the fabrics are pretty busy.
I’ve had a lot of fun being creative today. Tomorrow I will be playing with a very pretty owl cot panel. And then after that have several custom quilts to work on. There’s never a dull moment in happy longarm quilter land. And I plan to enjoy every minute of it.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be crocheting granny squares. I’m getting good and fast at it now. I‘m looking forward to enjoying the last episode of Call the Midwife. Whatever you may be doing this evening, I hope it’s something fun and super interesting. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥

Thought you were going up the hill is everything ok s x
Everything is fine. Just a change of plans due to the poor weather.
Hi Lucie, just finished watching Call the Midwives and also saw them making the granny squares, my friend Katy is making a baby blanket using granny squares but is struggling with how to join them, were they joining them with needle and thread on Call the Midwives
Jackie x
Yes. I thought it was rather funny that they were pretending to use knitting needles on
Crocheted granny squares. A little poet licence going on there. And yes you’re correct they were joining the squares by sewing them together. I crochet my squares together the easy way. Thanks for popping in tonight.
