I worked very hard today trying to avoid the snow blizzards with some degree of success. I managed the morning dog walk in between two blizzards. The same happened with my visit to the supermarket. I’m really looking forward to spring…….
Once I was back in my cosy home again, I played in the sewing room. I prepared and loaded a whimsical owl cot panel into the longarm quilting system for quilting tomorrow. So watch for a report about that sometime soon. And after that job I played with some Dresden blades. I have been planning a Dresden Plate on dark background for some time now but I really wanted to audition it first. So here’s what my Dresden Plate sample looks like on black….
And then I took it a little further and auditioned it on a beige/creamy Scrappy Log Cabin….
Now I’m really confused about what kind of background to put my Scrappy Dresden Plates on. I really like both. Perhaps I will have to make one of each! Goodness knows I have enough scraps. What a fantastic way to Use up Your Scraps.
When I was finished playing with my Dresden Plate stuff I switched to sandwiching my Lilly Pilly applique project. Hooray! I’ve finally done it. I can start Freemotion Quilting it as soon as I wish. First I will have a good think and plan out what designs to stitch in the different sections. So far I have enjoyed every bit of making this quilt. I hope I enjoy the quilting as well. It looks like I had better get my sketchbook and/or whiteboard out to start training my brain with regards to quilting designs.
I’m planning on having a quiet week at home this week. I have plenty to get on with. In fact it would be nice to catch up on a few things before Easter. Who knows I might even have time to piece another small scrappy project. Here’s a link for a few free small quilts pattern from Kathleen Tracy that you might like to make. I particularly like the Sweat Pea Doll Quilt. I own three of Kathleen’s books and they include plenty of quilts to help Use up Your Scraps.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be doing some hand quilting on my Simple Trip Around the World. Whatever you may to this evening, I hope you’re doing it in the warmth of your home. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥

I have one of those fabrics in your Desden Plate in a different colour. It always fascinates me who exhibits similar tastes
Great minds think alike…… Thanks for popping in today.
I prefer the black background! It has been snowing off and on all day here …… I am ready for spring!
Hello Lucie,
Lucky you with the snow, where I live it is 38 degrees centagrade (jolly hot), but visiting my folkes at the moment in Brisbane and the tempeature ranges are 20-27 degrees centagrade, much more pleasant.
When I saw the Dresden Plate on the black bakground, I thougt it was awesome, and then scrolled down and saw the crem background, and wow, definitely think you will have to make one of each
I look forward to a little bit of warmth. And yes I think I will have to make one of each. Thanks for popping in today.
Your Lilly Pilly turned out fantastic. I can’t wait to see how you quilt it.
I love the Dresden on the black! It pops! The Lilly Pilly is just beautiful. What a big job, but the outcome is worth the work. I hope you have fun quilting it.
I tried to follow your link to country lane, but it did not work. I went looking around the internet and think I found it though here: http://www.countrylanequilts.com/id30.html
I look forward to getting started on my black Dresden Plate quilt. I have already cut out all the blades so perhaps I will carry on piecing the plates over the weekend. I’m glad you like the black Dresden.
Thanks for telling be about the link that doesn’t work. I have fixed it now and it should work properly.
The black background looks lovely as it makes the plates really stand out. Looking forward to seeing more
