“A” is for April and “A” is for Applique ….. Do you remember I was talking about launching a challenge today? Well here’s a challenge for anyone willing to have a go. Lots of you have a bigger fabric stash than necessary so this challenge probably will cost little if anything at all. Do you have lots of patchwork and quilting books? If the answer is yes; that’s great, because this will be your chance to use your books and your established fabric stash. Every month I plan on stitching one applique block. The whole point of this challenge is to get you thinking and choosing for yourself all the while using stuff you have at home. Get your books and your patterns out or surf the internet for free patterns then raid your fabric stash and scraps and stitch an applique block. Every month I will give you a theme or prompt and then it’s up to you to make a block that represents that theme or prompt. If you decide to join me please feel free to make suggestions regarding themes. So the theme for April is home is where the heart is.
Now to get you started I’ll show you where I’m getting my inspiration from for this project. Yesterday I dragged out a little pile of books and the one I have chosen for inspiration is A Batch of QuiltSoup by Barbara J. Jones. This book was published in 2012 but is fairly new to my collection.
I’m going try to keep my project simple because I already have plenty on my plate. I can show you what project in this book inspired me …
I really like the idea of the simplicity of the applique blocks. And as this quilt has only nine blocks I will add more and change and resize the blocks to suit. I must emphasize that my quilt will be loosely based on Summer Cottage but not identical. So now if you’re up for this challenge let me know. If you come across any useful tools, interesting internet links and anything that might be useful to this challenge, please share with us.
So I have given you something to think about. Would you like to join us? The more the merrier……
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be pondering the next step in making April’s applique block. Whatever you may be doing, I hope it’s doing something that makes you happy. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
