It’s been a quiet day in happy longarm quilter land. After a trip to the supermarket I headed to the airport to collect hubby. He’s been working broad for a few weeks.
I didn’t get much sewing done today. However I did spend an hour or so in the sewing tidying, well actually making piles of fabrics and filing patterns in a binder. I also traced templates onto freezer paper and ironed it onto fabric for another sample of what I will be teaching soon. Freezer paper is a wonderful tool for quilt makers. I can’t imagine who determined it could be used for applique but I’m glad they did!
In the last few months I have been designing some new applique blocks. I decided that I really like the simple whimsical look. So it’s back to basics for me for a while and thoroughly enjoying myself. Sometimes less is more. I look forward to showing you what I have been working on.
After reading one of my favourite blogs this morning, I found a use for a bag I bought last week when I was in M&S. It’s a perfect fit for the selection of fabrics I am currently using to make my samples. I’m a bag lady. I will never have enough bags. Whenever I disappear into my sewing room to have a play I’m more likely to make a bag than anything else. I make a lot of bags but I give plenty away as well. Oh and by-the-way Meredithe, summer really is like the scene on the bag.
I cleared my design wall this afternoon to be able to work on something different. Here’s a little peek…….
This is a little anniversary quilt. I plan on anchoring all the patches in place using Freemotion Quilting but before I do that I will add some other bits to it. I’m hoping to applique more gingerbread men, hearts and any other interesting die cut shapes as I can. I plan to use colourful threads and I may even add buttons and Yo-Yos. The sky’s the limit. It looks a bit flat now but by the time I’m finished I hope it will come to life. Although there’s no rush to get this project finished, I hope to bring you a progress report soon.
There wasn’t much happening around here today. I have so many things to work on and it’s all pretty exciting. This weekend I’m hoping to get loads done. The work we have scheduled to get done on the house will start in a few weeks and I’m not sure what kind of mess we will be in. So I’m trying to get as many jobs cleared up before the work starts. While the work goes on I will work on UFOs such as crochet, knitting and hand quilting. The longarm quilting list is progressing better than I anticipated.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be doing some fine hand stitching on my whimsical applique/stitchery mystery project. Whatever you decide to do this evening, I hope it’s something seasonal that you can enjoy over the summer months. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
I love your gingerbread man quilt – I look forward to seeing more of it!
Hopefully it won’t take me too long to get this quilt sorted. I look forward to seeing the finished result myself.
Hi Lucie – I recognise all those gingerbread men as I painted two of them!
(the one in the mouse ears hat and the one in the pumpkin suit). I’m guessing you have them all “on loan” from Sandra! Great to see them all on the quilt top – I know I had fun painting them and its fab seeing them all assembled together. Just finished stitching all the buttons and charms on my applique piece. Yes I do have them on loan from Sandra because I offered to put it all together. I hope I can turn this little quilt into a proper keepsake. Thanks for popping in.
The gingerbread man quilt certainly looks interesting. I must get a large design wall, instead of having to use the floor. Sure doesn’t help the back any. Bag is very cute with beach huts and Blackpool Tower in background. Happy sewing.
I find my design wall very useful. I’ve have used it a lot in the last few weeks. It’s a lot easier than using the floor and you get a different perspective when you stand back rather standing over the work. It’s worth the investment. Thanks for popping.
Thanks Lucie – you are a sweetie! Glad I could prompt a use for the bag. I just love mine! Like you I’m a bag fiend. Hope you get to experience some Summer like the bag scene!
I’m sure we will have days just like the on depicted on the bag. Thanks for popping in.
