I’ve been busy gallivanting around the countryside today but I did make time to play in the sewing room this afternoon. In my quest to Use up Your Scraps and Finish it Up, I finally sewed all four sections of my Mystery Whimsical Applique & Stitchery quilt project this afternoon. I have been working on this project since June/July and started teaching it to a few ladies in August. Well the ladies are still busy stitching their little fingers off to catch up. It feels so good seeing my project progress. Now I have the difficult task of deciding what kinds of borders I want to add. I don’t think I want to add simple borders. I’m considering adding pieced borders and a bit more applique and stitchery work. Then I will have to decide how to quilt the project. I think a bit of whimsical quilting would finish it off nicely.
So that was the Finish it Up part of my day. Then I moved onto the Use up Your Scraps part by working on some bunting to hang on my chimney breast. I bought some Christmastime by Anni Downs of Hatched & Patched last year and used only a little bit of it. So today, I cut two strips off and layered it up and just added some simple machine stitches around each picture tile. It’s quite a naïve way of doing this but I’m happy with it.
I dug around in my scrap bins for a piece of fabric which I would turn into the ribbon that will string it together. I even found a piece of rickrack to embellish the string. I plan on adding odd buttons to make the string more interesting. Now I need to find some sticky hooks to be able to hang it on the chimney breast without making holes.
I would like to have an old fashioned Christmas; candy canes, glass baubles, paper ornaments and 1930s prints. Although I love a quiet Christmas I still want it to be festive. I going to get my books out and have a good look to see what else I can make with an old fashioned vintage look/feel. It would be a great way of using up more fabric wouldn’t it.
It’s been a great day in happy longarm quilter land. I had a little play in my sewing room. Tomorrow it’s back to longarm quilting. I’m going to be stitching a lovely funky girly quilt. And who knows what else I’ll get to play with……
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be doing some fine hand applique work. I hope you spend your evening working on something you really enjoy. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
I like your idea to festoon your chimney with those blocks. Fun indeed.
Your quilt is looking very beautiful.
Thank you Chris.
Love both your projects and next year I’ll be able to put something on a chimney breast, as in our new house we have one. Exciting. Take care.
Your appliqué quilt is lovely, looking forward to seeing your borders.
Thank you. It’s been a bit magical for me to see others make this quilt.
Your whimsy looks lovely!
I’m loving it too. Thanks for popping in Meredithe.
I love your whimsical applique – please produce a pattern for it!!
I will do but it won’t be ready until the New Year sometime. I’m glad you like it. Thanks for popping in Anne.
