HO HO HO Hello my lovelies. Has anyone got snow on the ground at the moment? Well there’s absolutely no sign of snow here in my little corner of the northeast of England. In fact the temperature has been hovering around 12⁰C or 53⁰F today which is far too warm for snow!
It’s been a quiet day in my little world. I stepped out first thing this morning for some Sudafed; I seem to be suffering from sinus problems at the moment. Once that was done, I found it hard to decide what to do with myself. So I thought I should have a little playtime. So I started by making some templates. Cereal box cardboard is great for making templates …..
I chose some fabric, as usual the most difficult part of any job is choosing fabric, and traced the templates …..
I find that laying the templates rougher side down helps keep them from sliding around while tracing on the fabric. This helps make the shapes accurate giving a really good finish.
Once all the shapes were cut out I chain pieced them …..
This project will be appliquéd to a background. I find that if I fold the background square from corner to corner and press guidelines it helps when it comes time to centre appliqué design.
So now we come to what the different sized Dresden Blades have made …..
Now I didn’t design this. My mother sent me a Pinterest link that showed Brenda Sutter’s beautiful Midnight Snowfall block. I Googled it and found that the pattern for the quilt is in the January/February 2015 issue of Quiltmaker. So when the digital version of the magazine became available last week I bought it because I wanted to have a go. As it turns out it’s a really simple block that looks fab.
It took me about two hours from cutting templates thru to tacking the Snowflake like Dresden Plate to the background. Here’s another view of it with the centre circle in place …..
I plan on turning this into a cushion over the festive period. I really enjoyed working on this project this afternoon. I had no idea what I was going to do today so it was a nice treat to work on something pretty. I like pretty.
So have you been working on pretty things today? Or have you been partying? I’m saving my partying for tomorrow. I will be teaching my beginner’s sampler quilt class tomorrow and Saturday at Stitchin’ Heaven. I have no doubt my ladies will be in fine form and as usual they’ll be very entertaining.
Well it’s been another smooth running day in happy longarm quilter land. My Sarah has broken up from college today. So we’re all be off the clock starting Sunday. Time to breathe I think.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be fine hand stitching a snowflake like Dresden Plate to its’ background. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something festive. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
