Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all enjoyed a fab weekend. It’s been a good one in happy longarm quilter land.
I guess I’ll start with Friday. I spent the day at Stitchin’ Heaven with some like-minded ladies who all wanted to learn how to do some hand quilting. I poured my heart and soul into this class. I tried to cover as much as I could on the day. We talked about layering your quilt right thru to how to do the actual stitching. Until I had to show my ladies how, I hadn’t really ever thought about exactly what I do with my hand or fingers. I found myself breaking it down into bite sized chunks. I’m much more aware of all the actions involved with making small quilting stitches. Here are some photos of the busy hands.
And here are the ladies that go with the hands …..
I promised that I would post a photo of the sample which I demonstrated on, from layering to stitching, to show the ladies what gives me the best results. So here is my sample in progress …..
And here it is finished …..
I’m quite pleased with the finished result. I designed this particular quilting pattern using shapes and rulers. I did try to encourage my ladies to design their own quilting patterns but they opted to use the stencils I brought along.
Today I spent some time in my sewing room. I needed to have a little Freemotion Quilting session to refresh my skills. It took me a while to warm up but once I got start I was off. The next Freemotion Quilting I will do will be to produce a simple sample panel for a class. It’s quite amazing how it all comes back to you.
I hung around my sewing room a little longer once the Freemotion Quilting was finished to load Lorraine’s quilt into my longarm quilting system. Lorraine pieced this quilt for her grandson. I hope to get started tomorrow morning once my little list of chores is completed.
So it’s been a pretty busy weekend for this happy longarm quilter. I enjoyed doing both hand and machine quilting all in one weekend. Magic. My Sarah and I popped into the supermarket to top up the food stores. It’s going to be a busy week ahead in my little world.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be doing some appliqué prep work. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something you love doing. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
