Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had a brilliant day. It’s been dark and dreary in my little corner of the northeast of England today. To overcome the dreariness, I spent most of the day in my sewing room working on one thing or another.
I kicked off the day by loading Isobel’s Tartan Quilt. As I understand it Isobel got a whole lot of remnants from a Scottish kiltmaker and joined them together in strips and fashioned them into a quilt top. Isobel has entrusted me to turn her Tartan quilt top into a proper quilt. I thought perhaps I could use a Celtic design but because the Tartan is very busy I’m not sure that any given design will stand out very well. So I’ll have a think about what all over design would work well with Tartan. Working with Tartan is a whole new thing for me, so I look forward to seeing how it will turn out. Who knows, perhaps Isobel is starting a new trend.
I went on to play in my sewing room for a few more hours after loading Isobel’s quilt. I started by choosing 3 fat quarters …..
And I hunted out my greaseproof paper …..
And I did some cutting and pressing. I did a little raw edge appliqué for which I used the greaseproof paper. And I made some individual Prairie Points …..
And eventually I ended up with this …..
And then I loaded that into a quilting hoop in order to do some hand quilting …..
I spent a while doing some hand quilting and this is how it looks now.
I just need to embellish with some buttons and doo-das, make the back of the stocking and Bob’s your uncle.
Today I used techniques that were tried and tested. I’m itching to learn something new though. I believe we need to learn something new every day. Well I did learn something new today. I learned that my doorbell button has been stolen!!! I noticed today that I haven’t heard my doorbell chime in a few days. So I went out to test the button thinking it might need a new battery. I was shocked to find that the doorbell button unit was no longer there. I guess the Trick or Treaters got carried away and decided they needed my doorbell button!!! I’ll never understand why people do the things they do. I have ordered a replacement and I hope that what arrives works with the chiming units inside. Watch this space.
So it’s been a pretty productive day in happy longarm quilter land. I enjoyed playing in my sewing room. And as my To-Do List was just a short one, I managed to work my way thru the list one item at a time. Tomorrow I hope to get Isobel’s Tartan quilt started. I’m looking forward to working on it. Hopefully the sun will come out and brighten my life a little.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be sorting thru a stack of books and magazine that’s been sitting in my living room for far too long. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something you truly love doing. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
