Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had a grand day. We’ve had a very stormy day in my little corner of the northeast of England. We’ve had wintry showers pretty much all day. There were periods of lovely fluffy snow. It reminded of winters back home. We don’t get much snow in England and when we do it causes absolute chaos.
I have a wee bit of sewing progress today. First I want to show you what I worked on yesterday. I pieced two more quilt as you go hexagons …..
These two blocks were pieced, quilted and joined together by bedtime last evening. I’m quite pleased with these blocks. I hope to quilt and join a couple more this evening.
As hard as I have been trying not to start another project because I wanted to concentrate on UFOs, I want to show you a little trial for a new project which will be a great stash buster. I dragged out a few scraps for a test run. I cut a few apple core shops using my die cutting machine up in the loft.
This is a single apple core shape. Can you see the notches in the inny and outy curves?
Those notches make the task of sewing all the shapes together so much easier. Before starting the sewing, I laid out a few shapes to see what it will look like …..
And then I proceeded with the sewing but first I put lots of pins the curves to hold them aligned. Notice how many pins I put in …..
I think that’s the secret to curved piecing. Don’t be afraid to use pins. I know lots of ladies who never pin. Well I think that success is in the prep work. And we mustn’t forget that pressing can make or break a project too.
So now that I’ve had a trial run and I’m pleased with how turned out, I will have to decide what fabric to use to make this apple core quilt. But first, I will try to concentrate on my small hexies that have been on the go for a few years.
So it’s been a pretty good day in my little world. I did a little bit of cooking. It’s the perfect time of year to make good old fashioned comfort food. The weatherman has promised us some cold temperatures over the next few days. I’m secretly hoping for some more snow. Heehee.
So for this evening, this very happy longarm quilter will be doing some hexie work, maybe. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something that makes you happy. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching. ♥ ♥
